Copyright and Licensing Policy

Authors retain the copyright to their works and grant Vigiles – Civil Defense, Social Defense and Public Security Journal the right of first publication.

Publication of an article by Vigiles does not constitute a transfer of the authors' copyright to the journal. Authors remain the copyright holders of their works, subject to the conditions established in this policy and the applicable license.

Vigiles publishes its content under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), unless otherwise expressly indicated.

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, published content may be shared, copied, redistributed, and adapted, including for commercial purposes, provided that the terms of the license are respected, particularly:

  • appropriate attribution of the authorship;

  • acknowledgment of the source and the original publication in Vigiles;

  • identification of the applicable license;

  • provision of a link to the license; and

  • indication of any changes made to the content.

Reuse of the content must not suggest that the authors, Vigiles, or the institution responsible for the publication endorse or support the particular use.

The adoption of the CC BY 4.0 license aims to promote the dissemination, accessibility, reuse, and impact of scholarly research, in accordance with the principles of Open Science and open access to knowledge.

The license applicable to an article does not automatically extend to third-party materials included in the publication, such as images, photographs, tables, figures, or other content subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions. In such cases, reuse must comply with the rights and conditions applicable to those materials.
