Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word document file format.
  • The text is 1.5 spaced; uses Arial 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

Original Article

Original Article

Report of an original study that contributes novel evidence to the thematic areas of Vigiles. The manuscript must present original data obtained through reliable scientific methods, with the potential to advance practice and research in Civil Protection and Defense, Public Safety, and Social Defense.

Manuscript Structure:

  • Abstract (in Portuguese and English or Spanish): up to 250 words;
  • Keywords: 3 to 5 terms (in Portuguese and English or Spanish);
  • Introduction (theoretical background, rationale, and objective);
  • Methods (participants, instruments, procedures, and ethical considerations);
  • Results;
  • Discussion;
  • Conclusion;
  • References;
  • Tables/Figures: no limit;
  • Manuscript length: between 15 and 25 pages (excluding the abstract and references).

Artigo de Revisão Narrativa

A revisão narrativa é a apresentação da literatura publicada sobre determinado tema baseada em livros, artigos e também baseada na interpretação e análise pessoal do autor. Possui como objetivo descrever o desenvolvimento ou o estado da arte de determinado assunto e não necessariamente informa o método de busca das fontes de informação utilizadas, nem os critérios utilizados na avaliação e na seleção de tais fontes. Os autores devem informar o objetivo da revisão e apresentar os resultados.

Estrutura:

  • Resumo e palavras-chave conforme item anterior;

  • Introdução (embasamento, justificativa e objetivo);

  • Desenvolvimento (metodologia, quando aplicável, e análise da literatura);

  • Discussão ou Considerações Finais;

  • Referências;

  • Tabelas/figuras: sem limite;

  • Extensão: até 30 páginas.

Artigo de Revisão Sistemática

A revisão sistemática é um estudo metodologicamente planejado para responder a uma questão específica e que utiliza métodos explícitos e sistemáticos para identificar, selecionar e avaliar criticamente as informações coletadas. O objetivo é reunir informações relevantes e atualizadas sobre um tópico específico de interesse. Os autores devem formular uma pergunta e um objetivo de pesquisa, estabelecer as fontes de busca para a localização dos estudos e avaliar criticamente as informações obtidas. Conforme dito, na revisão sistemática, o autor deve explicitar os procedimentos metodológicos adotados para realizar a busca e a análise das fontes de dados utilizadas.

Estrutura:

  • Resumo (até 250 palavras) e palavras-chave (3 a 5) em português e inglês ou espanhol;

  • Introdução (embasamento, justificativa e objetivo);

  • Método (estratégia de busca, critérios de inclusão/exclusão, extração e análise dos dados);

  • Resultados (agrupados por similaridade);

  • Discussão;

  • Conclusão;

  • Referências;

  • Tabelas/figuras: sem limite;

  • Extensão: até 30 páginas (sem resumo e referências).

Estudo de Caso

Deve fornecer uma curta descrição original de casos ou relatos de experiências (ocorrências, desastres, entre outros) particularmente interessantes para profissionais da área de Defesa Civil, Defesa Social e Segurança Pública. Podemos citar como exemplos ocorrências complexas ou de grande repercussão ou implantação de novas práticas gerenciais ou administrativas. Apesar de conciso, o relato deve trazer uma descrição cronológica detalhada dos casos, destacando sua relevância e originalidade. Os autores devem fornecer uma revisão da literatura e metodologia sobre os aspectos operacionais ou administrativos relacionados ao tema em foco.

Estrutura:

  • Resumo e palavras-chave conforme os demais tipos;

  • Introdução;

  • Método;

  • Relato da Experiência;

  • Discussão;

  • Referências;

  • Tabelas/figuras: sem limite;

  • Extensão: até 20 páginas (sem incluir resumo e referências).
