About the Journal
Vigiles is a technical and scientific journal published by the Minas Gerais Fire Department (CBMMG), with its first issue released in 2018. With a multidisciplinary scope and open to both the academic and professional communities, the journal is dedicated to disseminating scientific and technical contributions relevant to the fields of Civil Defense, Social Defense, and Public Safety. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines related to these areas, including public administration, law, engineering, health sciences, technology, and applied social sciences.
The journal employs a double-blind peer review process, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the evaluation. Vigiles publishes original research articles, literature reviews, and case studies aligned with its thematic scope, submitted by authors affiliated with national and international institutions. The journal does not charge any fees for manuscript submission, peer review, or publication.
Since 2021, Vigiles has been published exclusively in digital format through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, discontinuing its print edition. Since 2023, it has adopted a continuous publication model, under which accepted articles are published immediately upon completion of the editorial process and compiled into a single annual volume.
In the CAPES Journal Ranking System (Qualis Periódicos), Vigiles received a B3 classification in the most recent evaluation period (2021–2024).
Vigiles follows an open access policy, providing unrestricted access to its content to promote the democratization of scientific knowledge and strengthen collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and institutions dedicated to risk management, disaster management, and public safety.
